Gods - Msichief

Greetings and thank you for selecting the enhanced story telling sub-routine, your story is about to commence.
Please adjust you expectations settings while our world begins to load...

Story Mode : Engaged

As enter the universe of Earth mk2 we are presented with no clues as to the nature of toady's completely customised story-telling experience, The celestial screen-saver has loaded and has adopted a 'to boldly go' style motion.
We are traveling through the cold depths of space.
Sound has not been engaged as there are no sounds to be heard.

Directly in front of you a clear point in space, slowly but surely magnifying as we approach our story's setting, the peripheral vision becomes clouded with the blurs of passing stars their spectrum of light reflecting their relative distance and magnitude.
Right on cue our beloved sun comes in to focus.
Straight ahead Earth mk2 circling it like an exited dog might do with its owner, only with profound gravitational consequences should the owner walk off suddenly.

A brief freeze-frame shot is employed to allow us a moment to verify that it is indeed the same Earth mk2 from previous adventures before the cinematic filming intro moves in for a close up...

As you are already aware each and every Earth mk2's digitally enhanced simulations are unique to the each Earth mk2 participant, the technology employed to deliver these experiences has already been placed within you cranial cavity all you need do is think.

With the use of the latest algorithms most of the minor errors associated with Earth mk1 such as nausea, incontinence, physical dependency and eventual death have been all but eliminated.
Improvements include, the introduction of the user feedback box, the new & improved (semi-award winning) interface system, and many more addition innovations.

As we join our story we see what appears to be the god of mischief, encasing some animals he just thought up in stone.
He will at some point bury them to confuse future historians and piss of his fellow gods who have shunned him on account of his childish antics.

As he sips the last of his ambrosia he looks down in to its shimmering waters left in the goblet, slowly but surely images start to form in the remaining liquid.
Out of nowhere shapes & colours separate themselves and arrange each other in to an approximation of an a small blue planet. Mischief looks on intently, raising an inquisitive eye brow.
The image responds by arranging its self in to a new, magnified version of its self.

That's Earth, you'd recognise it anywhere wouldn't you?
It may look a littlemore  real than normal this time though, but don't worry you will adapt...

Not all gods get on, this much is known.
Not all gods have acquired that pin-up poster-boy celebrity status of the kind you may be familiar with... Not everyone can be a Zeus, Thor and Apollo.
And of the many gods known to man, few will reach the perpetual wet-dream status obtained by Venus.  -  Entire generations of adolescent males have fought and died in there mere hope of catching her attention. ...And no one this side of the celestial sphere is unfamiliar with that particular gods eccentricities.

But were not on the mortal side of the celestial sphere were in god territory, and this god is up to something

The image of the earth, ripples as Mischief peers inside letting out a dusty laugh.
What he seen we will probably never find out because before full focus is established he tosses it to the side.
It makes no sound as it lands.

Unlike most gods Mischief likes to get its hands dirty, it doesn't mind stirring things up every now and then, in fact that's pretty much all it does.
And the antics aren't restricted to the likes of other gods many a mortal will fall foul to Mischiefs tampering.
There is nothing Mischief likes more that helping mortals make a fool of them self, and the occasional strategically placed banana has also been known.

As for the victims of these pranks?
Well at least they learn the universe has a sense of humour.

Even as we speak on Earth mk2 poetry is being written and songs are being sung about how Mischief  once made the Medusa laugh so hard mead come out her nose, and of the time Mischief slipped a Titan an exploding cigar.

The humour of Mischief is not always appreciated, of course there was the infamous 'Whos got the biggest trident' gag that did not go down as well as planed with Zeus.  ...Especially as a number of his wives were witnessed giggling and nodding at the time.
But what really gets on the nerves of the gods is when Mischief meddles with their affairs.
Mischief is something of a loose cannon in every sense, he doesn't get involved with situations because he has a vested interest in a matter he does it because he can, as we seen with the incident between Semele and Hera.
You could say the situations present themselves to him and he intervenes when the odds are disproportionate.

Yes Mischief is the anarchist of the heavens, Mount Olympus's very own public enemy... the rule breaker.
Not only does he tend to go against the grain he has been known to go across it, sometimes diagonally or even straight through.
A rule unto himself he restores disorder to the highly predictability of Olympus and the kingdoms of Earth mk2, and entertains himself as he does so.

Right now he is entertaining himself with a small a boat making its way across an ocean, Mischief knows for a fact that the Sea God has forbidden that boat to sail yet there it is half way across the ocean sneaking across while the sea god is preoccupied with celestial matters.
Obviously some other god is helping the boat, obviously this is a better leave them to it situation but that's just not in the nature of Mischief...
He smirks and surveys the situation.

  1. This reads like a character sketch than a story and I suppose that since you’ve presented your story as an uploading file I am unable to argue your presentation of the mischief god. However, and despite the comedic slant you’ve applied, I am obliged as a member of your circle to constructively critique your work!
I’m awaiting conflict and specific narrative tension. What if Mischief were to in some way go against type? How might that scenario affect those that worship him? Indeed, you’ve called him a god so there has to be a significant body of people that out of love or fear bow down to him. In some way they must reflect his mindset.

Maybe your intention was to write something light hearted and thus such questions are not warranted here but from the sheer effort you’ve put into this world being water-tight on its integrity, you probably want these ‘plot holes’ plugged in right?

    I really liked this:
As we join our story we see what appears to be the god of mischief, encasing some animals he just thought up in stone.
He will at some point bury them to confuse future historians and piss of his fellow gods who have shunned him on account of his childish antics.

Now give us a story that uses these flash images?

  2. Hi Leon I really enjoyed the comedy here. Your writing style is more directional than what I am used to. As such I do feel the piece is leading into a story containing a dispute between the god of Mischief and the Sea God, I'd really like to read that story! Or is this piece meant to start and finish right here?

A lot of what I have read so far seems to be set up for the world and I would really like to indulge myself with some tales from the mythology of Earth Mk 2. Curiosity and the Cat has been my favorite thus far! Where are you planning to take the Earth Mk. 2 project, I'm really intrigued!
